Workers walk on the base of the new Highway 99 tunnel

The men in the photo are construction workers. They are building the Highway 99 tunnel. This tunnel will be on the Seattle waterfront. It is two miles long. Cars will travel north or south through the tunnel. Bertha, a big drill, dug the tunnel. Bertha finished digging in April, 2017. The new tunnel will open early in 2019. The old road, the Alaskan Way Viaduct, is not safe for drivers. It will be torn down.
