Cherry blossoms giving winter the boot

It’s raining. Students at the University of Washington (UW) are wearing boots and walking to class. They are walking among the beautiful, old cherry trees on campus. Many of these trees are over 80 years old and still healthy.

UW gardeners plant many kinds of cherry trees, so the trees bloom at different times. The pink cherry blossoms are saying, “It’s spring. Let’s have a party.” So many people will celebrate the cherry blossoms at Seattle’s Cherry Blossom and Japanese Cultural Festival (Sakura) April 21 to 23.
