InternationalThe Solar Impulse 2

July 1, 2016

The Solar Impulse 2 is a different airplane.  It uses clean energy, the sun, to fly. It is flying around the world.

The Solar Impulse 2 started its trip from Abu Dhabi in March, 2015. It stopped in different countries on the way. It took 210 hours to fly over the Pacific and 72 hours to fly across the Atlantic.

The plane has longer wings than a Boeing 747, and it weighs about as much as a car. Its 17,000 solar cells work hard to change sunlight into electricity. Batteries store electricity for night flying.

The owners of the Solar Impulse are also the pilots. They take turns flying. They are making history.
