The people in Leavenworth say, “Willkommen” to visitors. They use the German word for “welcome” because their town looks like a German village. People visit Leavenworth all year round, but Christmas is the most popular time. In December, people enjoy a special festival of lights on the weekends. They can hear Christmas music. They can eat special food and buy Christmas gifts. Leavenworth is in the mountains, so people often play in the snow. Visitors say, “Leavenworth is the Christmas town in Washington. It is a fairy land.”
