InternationalZalzala Koh returns

November 1, 2013

In September 2013, a big earthquake (7.7) hit Pakistan. People in Gwadar on the Arabian Sea felt strong shaking. They were afraid. And then they saw something surprising. An island came up right out of the sea.

The people went out to the island. They walked around on rock, sand, and mud. They saw dead fish and heard gas escaping. Officials said, “The island is a mud volcano.”

But the people remember another island near this same place. It came about 60 years ago. They named it Zalzala Koh, quake hill. It went away. Now people think, “Zalzala Koh is back!”
