September 1, 2012

Many tourists visit the famous Colosseum in Rome every year. This building is 2,000 years old, and it is falling down. The Italian government does not have money to fix it. So rich man, Diego Della Valle, will give $30 million for the repairs.

Is everyone happy? No! Della Valle owns Tod. This company makes expensive shoes. Some Italians say, “Maybe he will put advertisements in the Colosseum to sell shoes.” But Della Valle says, “Don’t worry. I only want to save this beautiful, old building. It is my responsibility.”

The repairs will take three years. Workers will clean and fix outside walls, and they will finally open up the basement area for tourists again. A long time ago men (gladiators) got ready to fight wild animals there.
